WebPeter’s second epistle was written about A.D. 66, shortly after his first epistle (see 2 Pet. 3:1) and a short while before his martyrdom (see 2 Pet. 1:13–14). Second Peter is the swan song of Peter, just as 2 Timothy is the swan song of Paul. There are striking similarities between the two books. WebPeter addresses his second epistle to those with like precious faith, evidently the same recipients to whom he wrote his first epistle ( 3:1; cf. 1Pe 1:1 ). His benediction of grace and peace is bestowed in connection with the knowledge of God and Jesus, hinting at one of the main themes of this epistle.
